Tongue Twisters!

Tongue Twisters were developed to teach the speaker to say certain sounds clearly and crisply.

They are useful exercises for those who wish to speak with excellent pronunciation.

And they can be so much fun! Try these tongue twisters at the next club meeting.

Say these tongue twisters out loud to practice the sound soft 'th'

1. Thor is the god of Thunder.

2. Thelma and Theo have bad breath.

3. Three free thrilling frills fought on Ruth's roof.

4. Thieves are thankless thugs who deserve our wrath.

Think Like a Leader and Lead Like a Thinker

The point of thinking?about life and leadership?isn't just to know new things. It is, to paraphrase philosopher Jim Rohn, to behave in new ways. Reading a book won't help you lead any better than buying a treadmill will make you fit. If you don't use it, you lose the benefit. (50% of adults don't read one book a year.)

Understanding Toastmasters International Values

Toastmasters International's core values are:

* Integrity
* Dedication to Excellence
* Service to the Member
* Respect for the Individual

These are values worthy of a great organization, and we believe we should incorporate them as anchor points in every decision we make. Our core values provide us with a means of not only guiding but also evaluating our operations, our planning, and our vision for the future.

As an organization, we believe that:

Two Valuable Evaluation Skills

Often evaluations go like this:

"Ann that was an absolutely fantastic speech. You gave us 10 tips on how to improve your skills in using the microphone and concluded with a great anecdote about your own experience with a "dead" microphone. A terrific speech. Well done."

At face value, this evaluation sounds enthusiastic, positive, encouraging - just what a good Toastmasters evaluation is meant to be. Or is it? On closer inspection, this type of evaluation says very little of real help to the speaker for two reasons:

Shortfalls in Table Topics

Shortfalls in Table Topics

In my visits to clubs over the years, I have noticed some shortfalls in the practice of the table topics sessions that waste our precious time and hinder our development as speakers and evaluators. We want to learn the most we can at each meeting with the dwindling time we have at hand and elevate our standards in table topics. Here are three strategies that may help improve the next table topics sessions in your clubs.

You Can't Talk About That!

Members often tell us that other Toastmasters have told them that speeches concerning politics, religion and sex are forbidden by Toastmasters International because "such controversial subjects are not appropriate."

How to Be Toastmaster When People Flake?

The challenge
You're the Toastmaster, but some members have flaked! They have roles, but they backed out at the last minute or haven't shown up to the meeting! What do you do?

Do not start the meeting and say, "I need someone to be the evaluator?" If you ask when the meeting starts, you look unprepared. Plus visitors won't be impressed. Would you be impressed if you went to a business meeting and key people didn't show up?
